Abstract
Optimizing user experience (UX) in games is a challenging task for developers. With the overwhelming diversity and sheer size of the data that can be collected from both players and games themselves, it can be difficult to know where to start. This talk provides an overview of when, where, and how to collect data during the iterative development process and post-launch. It will examine how this data can be used to improve the game experience, reviewing several case studies of data-driven UX approaches applied to commercial games. Finally, it will investigate how game data collection and analysis might evolve in the next few years, helping equip developers with the knowledge they need to apply state-of-the-art games user research (GUR) methods.
